Role: Graphic Designer
To bring together leaders in education across Alaska, Oregon, and Washington, Region 16 Comprehensive Center created an Advisory Board Program and a Community of Stewards program. For their All Stewards Convening, which brought these two groups together, the team wanted to center Native perspectives to create an action plan for addressing gaps in Native education present in all three states.
As communications manager, I developed two nature-inspired, visual themes. The first was water rippling out, to depict how Region 16’s impacts ripple out by starting with educational leaders, families, and communities and expand to create change within the very systems that create barriers for Native students to thrive.
The second theme was navigating by the stars, to depict how Region 16 works to dismantle the rigid, linear, maze-like system present in the Eurocentric education system where so many Native students get lost, and empowers Native students, families, and communities to find their own, organic way to the center.
Both themes are present in the Google Slides template above.
