AKReadsSE Components:
Beyond the Playbook (fall semester, three credits)
This professional development course equips educators to support struggling readers. Grounded in Alaska’s Reading Playbook and the Science of Reading, the course explores evidence-based practices in literacy instruction.
Assessment for Literacy (spring semester, three credits)
This course focuses on comprehensive assessment systems, emphasizing data-driven decision-making, language proficiency applications, and interpreting assessments.
AKReadsSE Seminar (yearlong, three credits)
This course offers focused webinars and guest speakers with reading expertise to extend coursework learning.
A capstone project tailored to school and district contexts encourages practical application and promotes leadership.
AKReadSE Network (yearlong, two credits)
This course offers networking sessions at the Professional Learning Communities at Work® and the Alaska Science of Reading Symposium, providing school improvement tools and a scientific approach to reading instruction.
LETRS 3e (yearlong, 12 credits)
Offered by Lexia Learning, this course delves into Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) 3rd Edition, exploring effective science-based approaches to reading instruction.

This 27-credit program is designed to help Alaska’s educators implement evidence-based reading practices in their classrooms. This endorsement includes one year of training and two years of service in Alaska.
